Chapter 17: Long Time No See
I felt a bit awkward after what Jay did to me.
“I think you can let me down.” I said.
He did. Just in time too.
A couple appeared. It was the woman who saw us first.
Her eyes widened when she saw Jay.
Well, if I were her, I would probably have the same reaction. I mean, Jay was shirtless.
He blushed a bit when noticing how he was dressed. But he maintained his stoic face and gave her a small nod.
“Can I have your autograph?” she asked, walking up to him. She took out a marker.
Wow, she was quite prepared.
“Sign my shirt please.” She said.
“Sure.” He said, “Who do I sign this for?”
“Just write to Janl.” She answered.
After he was done signing, he returned her marker and gave her a smile.
The woman by the name of Janl happily accepted her marker and returned his smile. Then she asked, “And this is?”
“My assistant.’’ Jay replied coolly.
“Oh I see.” She answered.
“Well, it’s getting late. Janl, and sir, have a nice evening.” Said Jay, as we left the pool.
The wind picked up. For the first time since I set my foot onto Singapore, I felt cold. My clothes were once again, soaked. I shivered.
I felt something on my back. It was Jay, who had covered me with his shirt.
“You’re cold.” He said as he slipped his feet into his shoes. “Go in and take a shower.”
He escorted as we head back towards the rooms.
Jay opened the door to his chamber, dug in his suitcase and pulled out a few things.
“Here, you can borrow this.” Said Jay, tossing me another one of his baggy shirts and harem pants.
Once in my room, I quickly emptied out my back pocket of my jeans, took off my shirt, and began washing it.
When I was done, I hung the wet clothes on the racks, snatched an undergarment, and went into the shower.
I could feel the warm water trickled down my back as I took another shower. I could still feel the spots on my neck that Jay has softly caressed with his lips. Whoa. What was that all about? Unless, no. He couldn’t.
I dried myself and got dressed in Jay’s clothes. I felt weird, having to wear some superstar’s clothes. The fans would die to get their hands on even a strand of his hair.
I had to really pull up the pants, or they look ridiculous on me.
Curious to know what Jay was up to, I left my room once again.
I tapped gently on his door. It opened and I was invited in.
I sat down on the bed as Jay came in the room with two glasses of milk.
“Aw, thanks.” I said, accepting his offer to me. I took a sip. Yum. Jay Chou style milk.
He smiled, nodded and sat down beside me.
I took another sip. I could feel my milk moustache forming along my upper lips. I set my milk down.
Jay chuckled to himself as he saw me in a goofy sight. Setting down his glass on the bedside table, he reached forward to wipe it away.
Having his finger on my lips quickened my pulse. I blushed.
Then, he inched closer to me. He was so close that I had to lean backwards to avoid bumping into him. Eventually, I lost my balance and I fell backwards on the bed, which gave me a soft surface to land on.
Jay kept getting closer.
When his face was just inches away from mine, he grinned slyly and whispered, “Just teasing you.”
He got up to sit on the bed with me.
“It’s getting late.” He said. “You should sleep.”
Getting up to go, I felt someone pulling me.
“I meant to stay here tonight.” He said.
“Sleep here?” I asked. “But theres-”
“Sleep beside me.” He insisted. “It gets lonely from time to time.”
I hesitated for a moment.
“Don’t worry. I won’t make you do anything you don’t want to do.” He assured me.
My dream was vivid. I could see the execution of my mother on the day twenty years ago.
There was a gathering of men, of all races. There was one who came into my dream. He was a Caucasian man, perhaps the attendant of the head. In the dream, I could see him whisper something to my “father”, and then to the head. He held a pistol in his hand.
It was morning. My eyes opened, signalling that I was awake. Jay was sound asleep, with his arm wrapped around me.
My head ached from what happened last night. What exactly did happen? Oh yes, I was dragged into the Infinity pool by Jay and I had to take another shower afterwards.
My hair was a bit wet when I went to sleep and I woke up with a slight headache.
I got up to use the washroom and went back to bed. It felt nice lying beside him. His scent of soapy awesomeness filled my nose as I inched close to him for a whiff. I then examined his sleeping face. Yes, just like our first encounter. I ran my fingers on his smooth and fair skin. I examined his well chiselled face and aquiline nose. I could see that the fat at the corner of his lips was not there, resulting the tightening of the depressor angularis oris, giving it a downward look. He has a slight under bite, making his lips look pouty. The signature mole on his left eye was hidden under the bushy eyebrows. His hair was styled to the right side, just like how I did, with the side swept bangs falling a little into his eyes. Ahh, it’s so familiar. Why would he be guilty of something that my “father” was part of?
The dream came back again. Images flashed through my mind. Suddenly, I could see the happening of that day. That man that was in my dream. The man with the pistol. I remembered seeing him hand it over to the head. A slight grin formed on his face. What was his name?
My thoughts were distracted when Jay opened his eyes. He was a bit startled when he noticed that my face was so close to his.
When he got back onto his senses, he smiled and gave me a quick peck on the cheek.
“You look cute wearing my clothes.” He teased.
I hit him lightly on the shoulder. “Come on, let’s get ready.”
It was 7:30 when we washed up. I went back to my chamber to change. The clothes that I washed were dried and I quickly put them on. I slipped the gun and bullets back into the pockets. Then, I went ahead to pack up.
When I was done, I heard the doors to the rooms nearby open and close. The rest of the crew were ready.
We went and had a quick breakfast.
“Alright,” said Emily, “We don’t have too much happening so it’ll be a free day for a tour.”
“Great time for some touring and shopping.” Beamed Nini.
We went down to Marina Bay Sands.
“Avoid walking in large groups while you’re there.” Said Ah Du. “It takes away the suspicion of by passers. Meet here at twelve as we need to go to lunch and head to back home.”
Jay and I split as soon as the other crew members did so.
“Where do we go first?” I asked.
“To do your shopping.” He answered. “I promised you last night.”
I stared at him.
“Come on.” He said smiling, grabbing my arm.
Good thing that it was still early in the morning as there were very few shoppers at the moment. What would happen if people saw us?
Jay grabbed whatever he could and made me try them on. He sat outside, waiting, to see how I’d look in the different styles.
It took awhile to get the right look.
While searching for shirts, I bumped into Emily, who was in the same store as us.
“Oh, so you’re out shopping too.” She said, smiling. “Seen anything that you like?”
“Not yet.” I answered.
“Alright, take your time. This is one of my favourites. There are so many pretty things here.”
She head towards the empty cashier.
“Well, see ya.”
Jay came back with more stuff for me to try on. It took awhile to get the right look.
Finally, we walked out with three shopping bags in our hands
“Are we done yet?” I asked him.
“Almost.” he answered.
Going next door, he made me try on some shoes.
“It’s alright, I’ll look by myself.” I told him.
Reaching for one of the selections, another hand took it from mine.
“Hey! I was looking at tha-”
The familiar presence of whomever it was made me stop on my tracks. I looked up.
Hannah.
“So now, you’re trying to steal my shoes?” she glared at me angrily.
What was she talking about?
“What?” I finally seemed to ask.
“You stole away my boyfriend and now, you’re planning to take over everything I own?”
“Whoa, there. Look, I never did steal anything from you. I don’t understand what you’re talking about.”
She narrowed her eyes at me.
“Don’t even try. I saw you two last night.”
That hit me like a bullet. But in front of her, I held my stoic face.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I repeated.
Jay suddenly came over.
“Am I missing on something?” he asked “Oh, hello Hannah.” He nodded at her.
Erasing her angry face, she immediately changed her complexion as she faced Jay.
“Oh, nothing.” She answered with her phoney voice. Then she gave him a “seducing” smile.
There was an awkward silence. Suddenly, a cell phone went off.
It was Hannah’s.
“Excuse me for a second, would you?” she said.
“Hello?” she answered the call. Then she sighed.
“Alright, alright, I’ll be right over.”
She slid her phone away and turned back to Jay.
“Well, I’ll see you soon.” She said, turning to go.
A slip of paper fell out of her pockets.
It was a photo of a smiling Caucasian man. I wondered who it could be. The face was awfully familiar. Then the answer hit me.
It was the man with the pistol.
